DEG inquiry leads to I-CAR RTS technical guidance
A DEG inquiry into Ford and Lincoln door-shell replacements led I-CAR RTS to issue industry-wide technical guidance. Inquiry 41799 flagged missing labor, non-reusable hardware, and template needs. MOTOR then updated CCC ONE: a 0.5-hour “drill for impact sensor” labor op, required side-impact sensor fasteners, and footnotes that those parts cannot be reused. I-CAR worked with Ford/Lincoln and published “OEM Linking Pin: Ford/Lincoln Service Part – Door Modifications.” For 2018–2024 Lincoln Navigator and 2018–2027 Ford Expedition doors, shops may need to drill holes or slots for trim or the airbag impact sensor. Instructions and a drilling template should come with a new OEM door; if not, contact the selling dealer. Specified consumables and new fasteners are required. DEG says never assume a replacement door is pre-drilled—inspect the restraint-sensor mount as soon as the part is unboxed.
